Like most Aussie kids, I did a bit of everything - footy, basketball, soccer, T-ball, tennis... I was dreadful at all of them. Meet F4L Triathlon & Endurance athlete: Ben
Athlete: Ben Aldous
How long have you been in Triathlon: 10 years
What is your back ground: Like most Aussie kids, I did a bit of everything - footy, basketball, soccer, T-ball, tennis... I was dreadful at all of them.
Greatest achievement outside Triathlon: Probably the combination of everything outside triathlon. The hardest part of the sport, especially in its longer forms, is balancing the preparation along with all of life's other pressures. The greatest (and most unexpected) benefit of Coach Paul's F4L Triathlon & Endurance group sessions has been the inspiration of seeing others manage their training around work, family, study, shift patterns and all of life's other challenges. Nothing says suck it up like getting your butt handed to you by the mums and dads that got up before 4am to do their training before the kids wake up! I have also run a pretty respectable beer mile.
Why do you do Triathlon: I started running to get fit for soccer and discovered there wasn't a problem that couldn't be solved by a long run. Triathlon was a natural progression. These days I do triathlon to manage the negative side effects of my addiction to Bunnings sausage sizzle.
What attracted you to F4L: I had been self coached for several years and had plateaued and eventually gone backwards. In F4L I saw an opportunity to get away from my boom-bust training cycle and find improvements by being consistent.
What are your targets: I've given up on going fast (or going fast has given up on me), so I need to go long. Norseman, Nice, Alpe d'Huez, Escape from Alcatraz and Coast to Coast are still on the bucket list.
Sum up F4L (in one line!): Quality, balanced coaching that delivers results without requiring huge volumes.
