I actually met Kim, about four weeks before I left Australia to come back to the UK. Kim has just started training with Phoenix Triathlon Club where I was coaching. Now, one year to-the-day since I left WA, Kim has asked me to help empower her to reach her goals in Triathlon.
Why do you do Triathlon:
New Year’s Day 2019 - a friend suggested that we do Triathlons with the goal to complete the London Triathlon 18 months later, participating in events doing all distances along and while building up to the Olympic distance being our ultimate goal. Being a complete novice, the Olympic distance seemed a long way. Triathlon was also something different for me to other sports I had done. With Triathlon having the three disciplines, I hoped the boredom of other exercise routines and gym work would be alleviated.
Now hooked on the sport, I am glad I entered the triathlon journey. I have heard people suggest that triathlon can be a lonely sport, but since joining a Tri Club and meeting other like-minded people, it has also become very social.
Some New Year’s resolution!!! It might have been easier to give up chocolates!
What is your sporting back ground:
I have always enjoyed running. I remember competing in many cross country events when at school in New Zealand where I also played A Grade Netball later as a Adult.
It wasn’t until I moved to Australia that I got back into running. I completed two ½ marathons some time back before becoming a ‘gym junkie.’
What attracted you to F4L:
After the London Triathlon was postponed due to COVID-19, my Triathlon focus needed shifting to allow me to keep motivated and to keep training so I have decided to participate in the Busselton 70.3.
I met Paul just prior to his return to the UK when I was a complete novice. He didn’t laugh too hard when he saw me swim for the first time so it was a no-brainer to seek Paul’s guidance now that I have a new goal. Paul also came highly recommended by other Tri Club members.
What are your targets:
My primary target is now to participate in Busselton 70.3 early December.
To follow Paul’s training plan, not get any injuries, compete well, to have fun and to enjoy the journey!
Favourite motivational quote:
My own: Don’t stop; keep going……there is a wine allowed at the end!
Seriously: Don’t stop until you are proud.
Favourite training song / music track: ‘Lose yourself’ by Eminem
